You can engage as much as you like, customizing your volunteer experience to fit your lifestyle and availability. We offer both single-event and ongoing volunteer opportunities.

FOSTER

Discover your caring nature by offering a temporary home to a homeless or orphaned pet. We operate on a foster basis and are always looking for new foster families.

REQUIREMENTS:

• -Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Willing to foster until adoption (even if it takes a while.)
• Willing to take the cat(s)/dog(s) back in the event of a return (thankfully this is not common, but we do ask you to be willing if needed.)
• If you’re a renter, you’ll need landlord approval.
• Cats & kittens have to be indoor only & not have contact with outdoor or indoor/outdoor pets except fully vaccinated dogs who are kept as a pet.
• Bring the cats/dogs to weekend adoption events at least twice a month.
• Feed and care for the cats/dogs as if they were your personal pets.
• Be able to take them to the vet if needed.

DARS-TX takes care of general medical costs for the animals, including spaying or neutering, regular vaccinations, and parasite treatments. Foster families are responsible for providing food, shelter, and affection to the animals they look after, but they do not receive any compensation for their efforts. The dedication of these families, along with other volunteers who generously contribute their time and energy, is essential for the operation of our nonprofit organization..
