STEP 2: APPLICATION REVIEW & PRE-ADOPTION INTERVIEW

Upon submission of your adoption application, an adoption counselor will be designated to assess all provided information and documentation. This counselor will contact you through text or email to discuss your application and offer additional details regarding your selected pet. During this phase, the adoption counselor will conduct a pre-adoption interview to better understand your needs and preferences.

STEP 3: REFERENCE CHECK, BACKGROUND CHECK, & HOME VISIT

During this phase, we will conduct a reference check based on the information submitted. We verify all details included in the adoption application. Once the reference check is finalized, your assigned adoption counselor will schedule a home visit with the prospective adopter and their household members.

STEP 4: APPROVAL & INTRODUCTIONS

Upon approval we will have you schedule your official meet & greet. Any current dogs in the home are encouraged to come in for the scheduled dog introduction. Potential adopters must speak with an Adoption Counselor to schedule meet & greet sessions. It is important to understand that we will not conduct adoption meet and greets unless a valid adoption application and an unexpired driver's license are on file. This policy is in place to ensure the safety and well-being of our animals and volunteers. Additionally, Petco won't allow any handling of our animals by their customers without the presence of a DARS-TX volunteer on-site, as per our guidelines.

STEP 5: ADOPTION FINALIZATION

We will email you the Adoption Contract to sign via DocuSign. At this time we will collect the adoption fee via PetStablished and schedule a date for your new fur baby to go to their FOREVER HOME!
